The role will revolve around the electrical design and peripherals of battery-based systems. As an R&D Electrical Engineer, you will be mainly involved in designing, sizing, simulating, and evaluating the proper electrical infrastructure for Lithium-based batteries and Energy Storage Systems (ESS). This will be performed on component, as well as on system level, to ensure that the designed electrical infrastructure meets the highest standards, from a performance and safety perspective. Furthermore, you will be performing studies on the electrical connectivity of battery modules and battery packs to associated systems, e.g. vehicles or grid-connected systems. The identification and selection of necessary electrical components to support the company’s production line will be a constant priority. Being a member of the extended Battery Management System (BMS) team, you will be participating in product-development projects involving engineers from a wide variety of disciplines.Key activities and responsibilities of the role include
  • Design of all electrical connections of battery systems, including wiring and cable/busbar sizing according to international standards
  • Design of protection mechanisms necessary for the seamless and safe operation of the battery systems by proper choice and coordination of relays and fuse arrangements
  • Identification and selection of desired electrical components from international vendors
  • Use CAD tools to design electromechanical arrangements
  • Be responsible as a work-package leader for electrical related work packages within projects
  • Communicate with external suppliers to assess component suitability, convey custom designs, and discuss solutions
  • Cooperate with engineers from a wide range of disciplines towards delivering results
  • Cooperate with Sunlight’s Procurement department to place component orders
  • Understand IEC/UL standards and be able to translate them to a technical data package
  • Use electrical simulation tools to evaluate the real-time interaction between the batteries and the systems they are connected to (vehicles, grid etc.)
  • Design, control, and implement electrical tests in close collaboration with the Testing team
  • Provide support and feedback to Sunlight’s Lithium production line on manufacturing issues
  • Improve existing designs based on feedback from customers
  • Maintain, update and expand electrical drawings library linked to Sunlight’s product portfolio
  • Clear and proper documentation of completed tasks
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering
  • 3D CAD tools e.g. SolidWorks, CATIA
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in both Greek & English.
  • Working experience in electrical infrastructure design and energy storage systems, is a plus
Desired knowledge:
  • Electrical design for low voltage and grid applications
  • Understanding of IEEE/IEC/UL standards
  • Electrical simulation tools e.g. PSpice, PLECS, Simscape
  • Matlab/Simulink
  • Knowledge on AC/DC and DC/DC converters
