  • The Lead Technical Engineer / Technical Superintended is responsible for the technical integrity, reliability, and efficiency of the FSRU, overseeing all aspects of its maintenance, repair and technical operations. This role ensures that all equipment, infrastructure and critical systems function optimally, adhering to international safety, environmental, and regulatory standards.
  • A key responsibility of the Lead Technical Engineer / Technical Superintendent is to supervise and coordinate the FSRU Operation & Maintenance (O&M) Contractor, ensuring the effective execution of maintenance schedules, preventive inspections and overhauls. Additionally, the role oversees the Contractor's services related to the Mooring Integrity Management System (MIMS) and the Risers & Umbilical Inspection & Maintenance programs, ensuring that all maintenance and inspection activities align with operational and technical requirements.
  • This position involves close collaboration with the FSRU Operations Manager to ensure that technical maintenance and repair activities integrate seamlessly with daily FSRU operations. The Lead Technical Engineer / Technical Superintendent also plays a crucial role in managing technical budgets, cost optimization strategies, procurement of spare parts, and coordination with classification societies, repair vendors, and stakeholders. This role is instrumental in driving continuous improvement, implementing technological advancements, and optimizing long-term asset performance while reducing downtime and operational risks.
  • The Lead Technical Engineer / Technical Superintendent reports directly to the Operations Director and serves as the key technical focal point for internal and external stakeholders.
Main Responsibilities:
  • Comprehensive Contract Management: Oversee the technical management of the FSRU, ensuring the smooth operation and integrity of all systems, equipment, and infrastructure. Supervise and coordinate the maintenance activities of FSRU O&M Contractor, ensuring compliance with technical specifications, industry standards, and contractual obligations. Identify and proactively address technical challenges and potential malfunctions, implementing corrective measures to prevent downtime.
  • Contractor Performance Supervision: Lead and execute preventive and corrective maintenance strategies, ensuring minimal disruption to FSRU's operations. Oversee the execution of all maintenance and overall activities, ensuring alignment with operational schedules and cost efficiency. Conduct technical risk assessments and lead troubleshooting efforts to maintain FSRU functionality and operational readiness.
  • Technical Reporting: Monitor and analyze equipment and machinery performance, reporting anomalies to FSRU and Pipeline O&M Contractors and ensuring timely interventions. Ensure proper recording of all technical activities, maintaining accurate documentation for data analysis, audits, regulatory compliance, and decision-making. Implement a structured approach for receiving technical reports from Contractors, ensuring alignment with Company's requirements and preparing internal reports as necessary.
  • Safety and Compliance Oversight: Cooperate with the FSRU Operations Manager and HSSEQ Director in investigations and reporting of incidents in FSRU operation, identifying root causes and implementing corrective actions. Ensure that all technical activities comply with class and flag state regulations, international maritime standards, and environmental policies , reducing operational risks and enhancing asset integrity. Coordinate and attend as required on-board visits with the Class Surveyors for all Annual, Intermediate and Special Surveys and ensure that the FSRU hold valid and updated certificates. Support the timely execution of audits and third-party inspections.
  • Operational Coordination and Integration: Work in close coordination with the FSRU Operations Manager to integrate maintenance and repair activities into the operational framework seamlessly. Provide input for cargo and regasification scheduling to Commercial department, ensuring that maintenance activities do not disrupt commercial obligations to Users. Is fully involved and informed of the FSRU Operations Manager's tasks, being able to support him, undertake part of his tasks or replace him in his absence.
  • Cross Departmental Collaboration: Work closely with the Company's HSSEQ Director and the O&M Contractor's HSSEQ team to uphold international safety standards, regulations, and environmental guidelines. Coordinate vetting processes conducted by Terminal Users and potential Users supported by the FSRU Operations Manager.
  • Budget monitoring and delivery: Prepare and manage the FSRU technical budget, tracking expenses and ensuring adherence to financial constraints. Analyze costs related to technical operations, identifying opportunities for cost savings and efficiency improvements. Review and approve budget proposals from FSRU and Pipeline O&M Contractors, ensuring financial accountability and cost optimization without compromising technical reliability. Oversee the procurement of spare parts and critical equipment in collaboration with the O&M contractor, ensuring timely availability and compliance with technical specifications. Conduct a detailed analysis of cost overruns in maintenance activities, identifying causes and implementing strategies to enhance budget efficiency.
  • Innovative and Sustainable Practices: Identify and proactively address technical challenges and potential equipment malfunctions, implementing corrective measures to prevent downtime. Review and provide feedback on proposed upgrades, modifications, and repairs to critical systems, ensuring that all changes align with operational needs and technical best practices. Continuously seek and implement innovative technical practices that enhance operational efficiency, sustainability, and environmental responsibility. Develop and implement strategies for the long-term reliability and performance of the FSRU, mooring system, and risers/umbilical.
Desired Candidate Profile
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering with preference in Mechanical, Process or Marine Engineering. A master's degree will be considered a plus.
  • At least 5 years technical experience in LNG operations with preference in FSRU's, LNG Terminals or LNG Carriers.
  • Experience in managing Contractors preferably in O&M or marine services.
  • Familiarity with planned maintenance systems and the ability to analyze and address technical issues promptly.
  • Comprehensive understanding of international maritime regulations, safety standards and environmental guidelines.
  • Proficiency with MS Office (MS Excel, MS Word).
  • Fluency in English.
  • Effective communication skills to liaise with various stakeholders.
  • Experience in monitoring and managing technical expenditures.
  • Strong analytical skills to resolve technical challenges.
